To measure the distance between features using the Simple Measures Wizard

Use the Distance Between Features area of the Simple Measures wizard to measure the distance between two-dimensional features on a part.

Note: The Simple Measures Wizard is available only when creating an inspection for use on CNC or Manual machines.

To create a distance measurement using the Simple Measures Wizard::

  1. Create and open a Simple Measures group in the Sequence Tree.
  2. Click Home tab > Create panel > Simple Measure > Simple Measures. PowerInspect connects to the measuring device, and opens the Simple Measures Wizard.
  3. Choose the type of measurement you want to make. Click:

to measure the distance between two points. PowerInspect creates two Probed Single Point items and a Distance: Two Points item.

to measure the distance between two planes. PowerInspect creates two Probed Plane items and a Distance : Plane to Plane item.

to measure the distance between the centres of two circles. PowerInspect creates two Compound Circle items and a Distance: Two Points item.

to measure the shortest and longest distances between two separate circles. PowerInspect creates a Probed Plane item, two Probed Circle items, and a Distance: Inner & Outer Two Circles item.

to measure the minimum and maximum wall thickness between nested circles. PowerInspect creates a Probed Plane item, two Probed Circle items, and a Wall Thickness: Two Circles item.

to measure the distance between a point and a plane. PowerInspect creates a Probed Plane item, a Probed Single Point item, and a Distance: Point - Plane item.

to measure the distance between a point and a line. PowerInspect creates a Compound Line item, a Probed Single Point item, and a Distance: Point - Line item.

PowerInspect creates all the items required to calculate the measurement and adds them to the inspection sequence.

  4. The wizard displays the Feature Probing dialog for the first item. Probe the feature, and click to save the points. PowerInspect automatically plays the next item required to calculate the measurement.
  5. Probe and save all the items that are displayed. When you have probed the items, the measurement is displayed. For example:

  6. If the item reports a negative value and you want to suppress the sign, select the Positive values only button.
  7. Click to close the measurement dialog. The Simple Measures Wizard is displayed again.
  8. Click a measurement button to measure another distance, or click Close to close the wizard.

When you have finished, PowerInspect opens the simple measures group in the Sequence Tree, and lists the items you created. You can then view the items and display the measurements in the Info and Report tabs.
