Use a GD&T Line Profile item to determine the size, orientation, and location for a single line along a surface. Use them to check that all the measured points in section groups lie within a specified tolerance zone.
To create a GD&T Line Profile item:
- Open a Geometric group in the inspection sequence..
- Click Geometry tab > GD&T panel > Profile > Line Profile.
- Enter a Name for the item.
- To exclude this item from the report, deselect the Output in report check box.
- To restrict the secondary and tertiary datum lists to items that are close to perpendicular with the primary datum, select the
Use angular tolerance to filter the available features check box, and enter the maximum angle by which the datum items can vary from the perpendicular in the
Angular tolerance box.
To show all datum items in the list, deselect the Use angular tolerance to filter the available features check box.
- Enter any extra information about the item in the Comment box.
- Click Next. The Datum Definition dialog is displayed.
- In the Workplane list, select the datum you want to use to control the initial transformation when fitting the points to the surface.
- By default,
PowerInspect uses a best-fit algorithm to match the points in the section group to the CAD. If you want to restrict the degrees of freedom used by the best fit, specify one or more datums. Click
to select an item from the CAD view using the mouse.
- Click Next. The Profile Definition dialog is displayed.
- In the Feature list, select the section group you want to check. The position of each point relative to the CAD datum, and whether the orientation of the surface has been inverted is reported for each point.
- In the Tolerance box, type the size of the tolerance for the surface measured by the section group.
- By default, the tolerance zone is symmetrically disposed around the nominal position of the surface. To specify an asymmetrical zone, select the
Use unequally disposed profile tolerance check box, and type the maximum positive tolerance in the
Additional material box.
The control frame at the top of the dialog summarizes the tolerancing requirements.
- In the Proximity criteria box, enter the maximum distance that a measured point can be from the CAD surface. If a point exceeds this distance, it is not included in the GD&T calculation.
- Click
Next. The results of the GD&T calculation are displayed in the
Result Preview dialog. If the result is:
- Accepted, the measurement is in-tolerance.
- Out of Tolerance, the measurement is out-of-tolerance.
- Not Calculated, the measurement cannot be calculated because one or more of the selected features or datums is unmeasured.
- Click Finish to create the item and save the results, or click Back to change the item definition.
