Data Preparation Overview - Materials

Definition of Materials for a Design Section or Design Beam is a three step process.

Step 1: Add the material type (concrete / reinforcing steel / etc.)

From the Navigation Pane select the Materials Group (if it is not already selected).

Click on the Add button, select type of material required.

Step 2: Set the properties for that material type (compressive strength, etc.)

Change the characteristic property details on the sub form as required.

Click on the OK button.

(Note: If you click Cancel the sub form is closed and the active group item deleted.)

Step 3: Allocate the material properties defined in 1 & 2 to the relevant parts of the section or beam

The Details panel at the bottom of the Active Group Tree List shows which components the material is currently assigned to, e.g. SSn is the short reference to a Design Section, SBn is the short reference to a Design Beam, and SAT refers to a structural analysis tendon assigned material.

Other Actions

To delete an existing material, click on the Active Group Item to be deleted and press the Delete button or the Del key.

To copy an existing material, click on the Active Group Item to be copied and press the Copy button or the Ins key.

Clear All displays a warning and, on confirmation, all materials are cleared.

Clear Unassigned clears all materials that are not assigned to any section or beam or any other data item.

Tip:

The order of the materials in the Active Group Tree List may be toggled between:

  • View by reference: The materials are listed in order of their reference number ('MP1', 'MP2', etc)
  • View by type: The materials are listed in order of their material type.
