Introducing Materials

Before creating any Design Section or Design Beam, the material properties to be used during the design must be defined. A material property fully describes the behavior of the material type, for example the stress-strain relationship.

Depending on the chosen Design Code there are a number of material types for Concrete, Reinforcing Steel, Prestressing Steel and Structural Steel, as well as user defined types. When creating a pre-tensioned prestressed beam, materials must be defined for the concrete, reinforcement and pre-stress strands before continuing to define the beam. More than one concrete property is generally defined (one for the pre-cast and one for the cast-in-place).
