Frequently Asked Questions

If the Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D extension is not performing as expected, please review the following to resolve the situation.

Table of Contents

Where are the SDT files located?

CONTEXT:

It may be necessary to review the SDT log, Job, Collection and other associated files.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

During installation file paths may have been changed.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Review the information below:

Installation directory (insert product year 202X):

  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\AeccStandardizedDataTool-202X.Bundle\Contents\Win64

SDTSetting.xml location:

  • V3.0.0.2 and older: Documents\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D
  • V3.0.0.3 and newer: %APPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D

SDT Log file location:

  • %APPDATA%\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D\Logs

Default job paths:

  • Collections: %APPDATA%\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D\Collections
  • Jobs: %APPDATA%\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D\Jobs

Job Standards Files are opening in an incorrect version of Civil 3D or AutoCAD.

CONTEXT:

The Job Standards file is opening in an older / newer version of Civil 3D. The Job Standards file is opening in AutoCAD or other Autodesk software.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

This is a limitation of the default Windows opener.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Navigate to the Jobs directory through the Civil 3D Open command and open the JSF through the preferred version of the software.

Formulas and Property Set Definition properties are not updating as expected.

CONTEXT:

The Sister Properties used by the SDT are not updating to populate the object data.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

Sister Property updating can be disabled by running a Civil 3D command, editing the SDT for Civil 3D settings, or through errors in the formulas setup within the PSD.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Ensure that Automatic Updating of the Sister Properties is active in the drawing. Save the file to force an update of all sister properties. Utilize the SDT_AUTOMATICUPDATESISTERPROPERTIES command to set that variable. To monitor the calculated Sister Properties and the Sister Property Values, revise the Job Standards File and toggle on the ‘visibility’ of both the Sister Properties and their Values. These data entries should match.

The SDT Sister Properties are updated when the JMF's are saved. To ensure that a save event runs the update to the Sister Properties:

  1. SDTSettings property of AutomaticUpdateSisterProperties must be turned on.
  2. The file must have Property Sets / Property Set Definitions.
  3. The file must have Property Sets / Property Set Definitions assigned to objects / entities.
  4. The file must have some kind of physical change / model interaction, instead of simply opening, saving and closing the file. Panning, Zooming or Rebuilding Civil 3D features appear to be sufficient for a proper save to fire.

To reiterate, simply opening the file, saving, and closing the file does not automatically update the JMF Sister Properties after Batch Attach Extended Data is performed. Although the Batch Attach Extended Data command has run as expected, and has attached Property Sets to objects/entities and finally saved the file. However the SDT Sister Properties are unable to update as AutoCAD does not realize that anything has changed in the drawing database and hence the PSD's do not evaluate in AcCoreConsole.

Multiple versions Civil 3D open causes abnormal behavior of the SDT.

CONTEXT:

SDT Commands are not running correctly with multiple instances of Civil 3D open at the same time.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

Due to the limitations of the API’s and AcCoreConsole that is used to drive the SDT for Civil 3D multiple versions of the software may not be opened at the same time.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Please close all non-active versions of Civil 3D. You may need to override the version in the SDT settings. Edit the SDTSettings.xml and enter the correct Civil 3D version manually:

  1. Edit the SDTSettings.xml file in a text editor, it is found in:
  • C:<username>\Documents\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D or
  • %APPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk Standardized Data Tool for Civil 3D
  1. Search for the line labeled AcCoreConsoleVersion. Edit that line to correspond to the version of Civil 3D in use:
  • For Civil 3D 2025, replace with R25.0
  • For Civil 3D 2024, replace with R24.3
  • For Civil 3D 2023, replace with R24.2
  • For Civil 3D 2022, replace with R24.1
  • For Civil 3D 2021, replace with R24.0
  1. If that doesn't solve it, change the line in that same SDTSettings.xml file labeled OverrideAcCoreConsoleVersion from False to True.

Batch commands or adding models to a job are not functional.

CONTEXT:

The Batch Update Standards and Batch Attach Data commands are not acting upon the Job Model Files.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

The Job Model Files may not be available for editing with the SDT tool.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Review read/write properties for all files involved. Check that no Job Model Files are open prior to running the command. The SDT may read/write from files on the local C: drive, ensure that these directories are accessible at all times. Review the log and command line to ensure that the SDT is running as expected.

Property Set Definitions are not attaching or updating within the Project Model Files.

CONTEXT:

The Property Set Definitions found within the individual JMF’s are not updating, or the properties are not correctly attaching to objects within the files.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

Job Model Files may not be associated with the Job, causing all PSD commands to fail. Additionally, if the Job Standards File and PSDs are not up to date this will cause issues with data attachment or updates.

STEPS TO TAKE:

Confirm Civil 3D drawing files are part of the correct Job and Collection. This information can be reviewed in the Drawing Properties or Run the Update Standards or Batch Update Standards command to synchronize the JSF across the model drawings. The Update Standards command should be run prior to attaching PSD data.

Refer to Formulas and Property Set Definition properties are not updating as expected for additional troubleshooting information.

The Installer does not work correctly.

CONTEXT:

There are instances when you may experience problems or issues with the original installation

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

Installer filetype may not be permitted on the device.

STEPS TO TAKE:

If the installer is a ZIP archive, ‘Unblock’ the archive prior to extraction. Ensure that antivirus software is disabled during installation.
