Classifications

Step 1 of the 3-step process to Specify Data Requirements

Classifications is where you will manage all of the classification systems used across your portfolio. The classification system defines the hierarchical structure of asset categories and types. Classification systems are used to define your asset types and grouping (or categorization). You can leverage preloaded industry standards or upload your own system as desired.

To begin, navigate to the MANAGE page within Autodesk Tandem.

Tandem Categories

Tandem Categories are a high-level classification of elements within your facility. They provide a foundational organizational data structure, breaking your facilities into primary components and streamlining navigation and management. This classification system ensures that operational users can more easily engage with and understand their facilities, promoting efficiency and clarity in day-to-day workflows.

Key Points:

  • Tandem Categories are automatic. Once your models are uploaded into Tandem, the system will automatically generate the Tandem Category structure. If an element does not have a Tandem Category, you can reclassify or modify the classification. They cannot be removed from Facility Templates.
  • Tandem Categories enable quick onboarding by breaking down building structures through the filters panel, users can rapidly navigate, search, and inventory their facilities.
  • Tandem Categories work with custom classifications. Users can also continue using their own classification systems within the facility template.

Custom Classifications

To import a custom system, select an existing system and click download to use as a template. This will create an Excel template to work with. In Excel, you can populate the code, description, and tree level (which defines how the line items will be grouped hierarchically).
