Set the DWFx File Resolution

You can specify the pixel resolution for vector and raster graphics of the DWFx files that you create. The higher the resolution, the greater the precision but the larger the file size.

Attention: Raster and gradient resolution settings can never exceed the vector setting.

The following list shows the default values for vector and raster resolutions:

  • Vector resolution: 1200 dpi
  • Custom vector resolution: 40000 dpi
  • Gradient resolution: 200 dpi
  • Custom gradient resolution: 200 dpi
  • Color and grayscale resolution: 200 dpi
  • Custom color and grayscale resolution: 200 dpi
  • Black and white resolution: 400 dpi
  • Custom black and white resolution: 400 dpi

When you create DWFx files intended for plotting, select a resolution to match the output of your plotter or printer. High resolutions (over 2400 dpi) are for viewing. For example, when you create DWFx files of drawings that contain a lot of detail, such as a topographical map of a large region, use a higher resolution setting for greater detail in the DWFx file.

Use extreme resolutions (over 40,000 dpi) only when necessary; they may produce very large files. As you increase the resolution setting, raster image quality increases, the speed of printing decreases, and memory requirements increase.

As an example of the difference between DWFx resolution settings, consider a map of the world that you want to output as a DWFx file for viewing. With a medium resolution setting, you might be able to zoom to a level of detail approximately the size of the state of California on the world map. With a high resolution setting, you might be able to zoom to a level of detail the size of a city. With an extreme resolution setting, you might be able to zoom to a level of detail the size of a building.
