Cancel a check out on a configuration item

When you check out an item, the item and its linked configuration items remain checked out to you indefinitely - no one else may edit the items or its design - until you remove the check out lock.

If you check out an item and don't make changes to it, or you decide to discard your changes, you can simply cancel the check out rather than saving or checking in the file(s) and unnecessarily increasing their file version by one. When you cancel a check out, the following happens:

• The check out lock is removed from the item and all of its linked configuration items.

• The CAD file is not uploaded into Upchain to create a new version.

• The CAD file is put into a read-only state in the home folder.

• The CAD file retains any changes that you may have made to it locally on your computer. In other words, canceling the check out does not revert the CAD file back to match the latest version saved in Upchain. If you want to revert the file back to match the latest version saved in Upchain, you may:

  • Delete the CAD file from your home folder and re-download it.
  • Check out the CAD file directly from the Project BOM to force a re-download of the file.
  • Ensure your Tenant Administrator has enabled the tenant property redownload.files.to.home.folder. This adds an Overwrite option to the right-click menu in the Project BOM.

Cancel a check out from the cBOM view

1. Refresh the cBOM view.

2. Right-click an item that is currently checked out and select:

   • Cancel check out to cancel the check out on the selected item and all of its linked configuration items that are checked out to you.
   • Cancel all check outs to remove the check out lock on the selected item (assembly), all of its linked configuration items, all of its children, and all of its children’s linked configuration items that are checked out to you. Upchain presents you with a window to confirm that you want to cancel all check outs before this action is completed.

Cancel a check out from the Item view

1. Select the item so that it appears in the Item view.
2. Click the More actions drop-down menu and select Cancel check out.

The check out lock is removed from the item and its linked configuration items. Any other items that are also checked out remain checked out.

Cancel a check out from My Workspace

If you have added the My Locked Objects section to your My Workspace page, then you can cancel check outs from here.

1. Right-click on an item from the list and select:

   • Cancel all check outs to remove the check out lock on the selected item (assembly), all of its linked configuration items, all of its children, and all of its children’s linked configuration items that are checked out to you. Upchain presents you with a window to confirm that you want to cancel all check outs before this action is completed.
   • Clear all to remove the check out locks from every item in the My Locked Objects section. Upchain presents you with a window to confirm that you do want to cancel all check outs before this action is completed.
