Send a part/assembly with configurations to a Change request

For information on Change requests (CR), see this topic to get started. All information there is relevant, however, there are some additional things to note when working with configuration items.

When you send any of the configuration items to a CR (from the web app or the cart in the Upchain CAD plugin), all linked configuration items are added to the CR as well. Each configuration item brings in its own eBOM structure. This is because the same CAD file and drawings exist in each item so they must all be released at the same time.

Any child components that have linked configuration items not included in the parent items’ eBOM structures are also brought into the CR. This is again because all linked configuration items contain the same CAD file and drawings and must be released at the same time.

Removed configurations and CRs

If a CAD file contained a configuration that has since been removed, the item associated with it remains in Upchain. This is to ensure all historical information is retained. However:

  • When you send a configuration item to a CR, previously linked configuration items that have since been removed are not included in the CR. This is because removed configuration items do not contain the latest CAD file version.
  • Removed configuration items cannot be sent to a CR because they no longer contain the latest CAD file version.
  • Removed configuration items remain with a status of Development.
