Open a configuration in read-only mode
When you right-click a configuration item and select Open from the Project BOM to load the CAD file from Upchain into SOLIDWORKS, the CAD files are downloaded to your local home folder and opened in read-only mode. You cannot edit the CAD files until you use the CAD plugin to check out the CAD files.
When downloading a configuration item, Upchain uses the cBOM and eBOM saved for the selected configuration item when determining the behavior of the load filters in the Download files window.
The configuration item from which you initiated the download process determines which configuration opens as the active one.
To download a configuration item:
Locate the desired item in the Project BOM.
Right-click the item and select Open.
The Download files window opens. The selected configuration item’s cBOM is displayed.
(Optional) Select the desired parent CAD file version. Note that you may only download a CAD file version that is associated with the selected item version.
(Optional) Select the desired load filter.
(Optional) In the Drawing column, select the box to download the corresponding drawing (if one exists).
Tip: Right-click the drawing column heading to select all, select none, or select by item status.Note: The Download files window displays a box next to every item regardless of whether it has a drawing. If you select a box beside an item that does not have a corresponding drawing, then no drawing is checked out.Click Download.
When the files finish downloading to your local home folder, click Open model (or Open drawing if you selected the parent-level drawing).
The CAD model is downloaded to your home folder and opens in SOLIDWORKS in read-only mode. The selected configuration to download is the one that is active.

. When enabled, an Overwrite option is added to the right-click context menus in the CAD Plugin. Select the Overwrite option to open the Download files window and overwrite the modified file in the home folder, as long as the file is not checked out. In effect, this enables you to revert any changes you may have made to the file. In any case, it is generally beneficial to use the Project BOM to open CAD files.
