Mesh preferences reference
The Preferences dialog contains several settings that affect mesh bodies in Fusion.
Access
In the top-right corner of Fusion, click your Avatar, then select Preferences.
Material section
- Apply A Different Appearance: If you use this setting to apply a different default appearance, then any colors or textures associated with
OBJ
or3MF
files that you import will be overridden by the appearance you select here.
Uncheck this option if you want the colors and textures associated with an OBJ
or 3MF
file to display on the mesh body when you insert it.
Mesh section
- Triangulate Mesh Polygons: Check to convert all non-triangular faces to triangular faces when you insert a mesh body.
- Default Shading: Renders mesh bodies in one of two visual styles.
- Smooth Shaded: Best for larger, organic, smooth mesh bodies. May improve performance.
- Flat Shaded: Best for smaller, prismatic, sharp-edged mesh bodies.
Note: In the Browser, right-click a mesh body, then select Smooth Shaded or Flat Shaded to switch the visual style for a specific mesh body.
Graphics section
- Disable Surface Normal Display: Controls whether both sides of the faces on a mesh body are displayed in the same style, or if back faces are displayed in a different color and style.
Uncheck this option if you want to identify faces on a mesh body that are oriented incorrectly, so that you can use Reverse Normal or Repair to reorient them.
Mesh Repair Analysis
Enables an advanced mesh analysis tool to assist with the repair of mesh bodies. On the Mesh tab, select Prepare > Repair.
