Determine Requirements for Revit Deployments

Before creating one or more Revit deployments, take time to consider the needs of your Revit users and your organization. Depending on the number of planned Revit installations, you may want to create a separate Revit deployment for each unique combination of user disciplines, user settings, and other deployment requirements. By planning deployments carefully before you create and implement them, you can streamline the process and reduce work.

To determine your requirements, answer these questions:

• Does your organization use roaming user profiles?
• Do you need to create deployments for different groups of users based on discipline, software features, and settings?
• Which Revit content packs does each group of users require?
• Where will Revit content files reside?
• Where will user projects and files reside?
• Do you want to include additional files with a deployment?
• Do you want to install add-ins or additional software as part of a deployment?
• Do you want to install language packs with a deployment?
• Do you want to install service packs with a deployment?
• Which user settings do you want to specify for Communication Center and online resources for Revit?
• Does your organization use Revit Server to improve response times when users share models across a wide area network?
• Do you need to create a combined deployment that detects the computer type (32-bit or 64-bit) and uses a corresponding deployment to install the software on Windows® 7 systems?
  Note: Revit supports only 64-bit computers for Windows® 8.

Based on your answers to these questions, perform preliminary tasks, such as generating a custom Revit.ini file or planning your Revit Server implementation.
