Enables you to insert or edit joints manually. For standard joints, this option is an alternative to converting all assembly constraints automatically or converting assembly constraint a joint at a time. For all other categories of joints (rolling, sliding, 2D contact, and force), this option is the only way to add a joint of that type to a mechanism.
Access: |
Ribbon: Dynamic Simulation tab Joint panel Insert Joint , Or In the Dynamic Simulation browser, right-click a joint and select Edit from the context menu to edit a joint |
Joint types |
Opens the Joint type menu so that you can select the type of joint you want to insert. Consider the two joint components and the types and degrees of freedom when determining the correct joint type. |
Displays the joints table so that you can select a joint type by clicking an icon. |
Selections available immediately after joint type selection vary according to the joint type. |
For Rolling: Cylinder on Plane, Rolling: Cylinder on Cylinder, and Rolling: Cylinder in Cylinder joints, |
Specifies that the rolling joint has only one constraint and that is a rolling constraint . |
Specifies that the rolling joint has two constraints, a rolling constraint and a tangency constraint . |
For Belt joints, |
Specifies a straight belt between the two cylinders. |
Specifies a crossed belt between the two cylinders. |
For Screw joints, |
Create Cylindrical joint |
Creates a cylindrical joint between the two components before creating the Screw joint. |
For all joints except 3D Contact, |
Enables you to select the joint component before you select the geometric entity. This function makes it easier to select an entity (a point, line, or face). |
For all joint types, |
Selection arrows |
The number specifies whether the selection is for the first or the second component. |
Indicates the type of component or entity to select. If this icon is automatically selected, the software prompts you to enter the type of component or entity next. |
Indicates a type of component or entity that has been selected. |
Indicates a type of component or entity currently unavailable for selection. If clicking one of these icons turns it red, you can select that component or entity next. |
Enables you to flip the direction of either the normal of the component or the axis indicated to the right. |
For screw and worm gear joints, |
Pitch |
Sets the pitch of the screw component of the joint. |
