Scene Styles dialog box

Create and edit scene styles that consist of background geometry, colors, or images that appear during rendering.

Access:

Ribbon: Render tab Scene panel Scene Styles

Toolbar

The toolbar is located at the top of the scene styles list in the Scene Styles dialog box.

New Style

Creates a new local style based on the selected style. A default name is provided and can be changed using the Rename command.

Purge Style

Removes the selected local style. Available if a local style is selected and the style is not being used.

Update Style

Replaces the data for the selected local style with data from the corresponding global style. The local style must:
  • be selected
  • have changed since last updated from the global style.

Save to Style Library

Saves the selected local style to the style library (on disk), overwriting the existing global style. The local style must:
  • be selected
  • Read-write in the project file
  • have changed since last updated from the global style.

Styles list browser

Lists global and local scene styles. If the Use Styles Library option is set to No in the current project, then only local styles are listed. Local styles have an asterisk (*) following the name. Local styles take precedence over global styles with the same name.

When you right-click a scene style in the browser and click Active on the context menu, you designate it as the active style for the scene.

Background tab

Use Application Options

Matches the background to the settings in Autodesk Inventor and disables all controls. Disables image selection options.

Uses the background image defined in Application Options, on the Color tab page.

Colors

Specifies the top and bottom colors for a gradient background. Use the top color swatch with the solid color, color gradient, or image background types. Use the bottom swatch for gradient backgrounds.

Type

Solid Color specifies a solid color background. Default.

Color Gradient specifies a color gradient background.

Image specifies use of an image for the background and displays the Open dialog box where you navigate to and select a BMP, JPEG, PNG. GIF, or TIFF format for the image.

Image Sphere uses an image sphere you specify for a background.

Image

Available only if Image is selected. Shows the path and background image file name . Click to browse for a different image.

Position

Select Center, Tile, or Stretch option to display the background image.

Repeat

Repeat the background image a specified number of times horizontally or vertically.

Environment tab

Ground Plane

Direction specifies the ground plane. Select the XY, XZ, or YZ world plane that the ground plane is parallel to, or select Current. Current uses the model environment ground plane.

Offset specifies the offset distance between the ground plane and the selected world plane. To use the Measure command or choose from most recently used values, click the arrow on the input box and select from the menu.

Show Shadows displays shadows on the ground plane. The slider controls the intensity of the shadows rendered on the plane.

Show Reflectionsdisplays reflections on the ground plane. The slider controls the intensity of the reflections rendered on the plane.

Use Reflection Image

Displays the Open dialog box where you navigate to and select a reflection image. Uses the image as a spherical reflection map for the entire scene.

Browse window

Displays the path and reflection image file name. Click to navigate to and select an image. Available only if Use Reflection Image is selected.

Import

Use the Import command to import individual scene styles that was exported and distributed.

  1. Click Import.
  2. In the Import dialog box, navigate to the directory containing the style you want to import.
  3. Select the style and click Open.
  4. If the style name exists, you are prompted to overwrite the existing style with the imported style.

Context menu commands

In the Scene Styles dialog box, in the list of styles, you can right-click any style and access the following commands:

Active

When checked denotes the active scene style. Click to deactivate the style and remove the check. If no styles are active the current background is used for the scene.

Rename Scene Style

When selected, places the style name in edit mode, enter the new name and click outside the edit field.

New Scene Style

Creates a scene style using the default scene style parameters.

Copy Scene Style

Creates a copy of the selected scene style. The new style is selected and ready for edit.

Purge Style

Removes the selected local style. Available if a local style is selected and the style is not being used.

Export Style

Exports the selected style to the filename you provide. The style file extension is .styxml.
