Sets properties for 3D contact joints. These joints are not permanent and do not penetrate.
Before creating a 3D Contact joint be sure the components are not penetrating one another.
3D Contact Joints are not compatible with Unknown force computation. It is recommended that 3D Contact joints be suppressed before starting a simulation having an Unknown force.
Access: |
In the Dynamic Simulation browser, right-click a 3D contact joint , and select Properties. |
Suppress joint |
Select the check box to exclude the joint from all calculations and disable all the other fields in this dialog box. Clear the check box to include the 3D contact joint in all calculations and enable all the fields. The default is to include the joint in all calculations. Alternatively, you can right-click the joint in the Dynamic Simulation browser and select Suppress joint from the context menu. |
Use the text boxes ( Stiffness , Damping , and friction ) to enter a constant value or a value that varies over time. Click the arrow to select Constant value or Input grapher. Constant value is the default. If Constant value is the selection, you can enter the value in the text box. If Input Grapher is the selection, appears in the text box. Click the icon to open the Input Grapher to define values that vary over time. |
|
Stiffness |
Sets the stiffness of the spring-damper-based forces. Stiffness is the resistance of an elastic body to deformation when a force is applied. |
Damping |
Sets the damping value. Every elementary normal contact force is a function of the following parameters:
|
Friction |
Sets the coefficient of friction . |
(More) |
Displays additional parameters. |
Contact points on Part 1 |
Indicates that contact points on the first component of the joint are visible in the graphics window. Select to enable Max. number. |
Contact points on Part 2 |
Indicates that contact points on the second component of the joint are visible in the graphics window. Select to enable Max. number. |
Max. number |
Sets the maximum number of contact points displayed if you want to show fewer than all. |
Display |
Sets the scale and color of the joint for display. |
Scale |
Sets the scale of the joint force vector . Use this option to make all of the vector visible in the graphics window. The default is 0.01. |
Display color |
Opens the Microsoft Color window so you can select the color of the joint when displayed. |
