Add a second model

Add the second model that will part of the family mold.

  1. Click Part only, Home tab (Home tab > Mold Type panel > Part only) and select Multi-cavity, Home tab Multi-cavity from the Mold Type drop-down list.
  2. Click Geometry, Home tab (Home tab > Create panel > Geometry) to open the Geometry tab.
  3. Click Add, Geometry panel (Geometry tab > Layout panel > Add). The Add part-Model selection dialog appears.
  4. Click Browse and navigate to the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Adviser tutorial files (typically C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Simulation Moldflow Adviser xxxx\tutorial).
  5. Select mouse_base.stl and then click Open.
  6. Step through the Import Wizard dialog, accepting the defaults.

    Note:

The analysis type you select determines the analysis type that will be used for all the models in your family mold.

In order to recommend the best type of analysis, the Import wizard applies the following rules:

    1. If any of the imported models contain defects that cannot be repaired, Dual Domain will be the only option available.
    2. If some models are suitable for a 3D analysis and others for Dual Domain analysis, then either option can be selected. However, if not all models in the mold are suitable for a single analysis type, then the Import wizard will recommend a 3D analysis.
    3. If all imported models are suitable for a Dual Domain analysis, then all options will be available, but the Import wizard will recommend Dual Domain analysis.

Both parts are now displayed in the Model pane.

In the next task you will orient the mouse_base.stl model correctly in relation to mouse_top.stl.
