Model a family mold (tutorial)

A family mold is a type of multi-cavity mold. It contains two or more cavities and each cavity forms a part to an assembled product. Unlike multi-cavity molds that have multiple identical cavities, family molds have multiple cavities that are not all identical.

Note: Throughout this tutorial it is assumed that metric units are used.
To change units:
  1. Click Application button then Options to open the Options dialog.
  2. Select the General tab.
  3. Select Metric units from the Active units drop-down menu.
  4. Click OK.
  1. Import the first model
    The first step in modeling a family mold is to import the first model that is to be included.
  2. Add a second model
    Add the second model that will part of the family mold.
  3. Orient the models
    Adjust the orientation of the models in the family mold.
  4. Generate the runner system
    Create a two plate tool, and generate the feed system for the models in the family mold.
  5. Check how cavities are filled
    Launch a Fill analysis to see how the runner system you created in the previous task fills the mold.
