Modeling a single cavity mold (tutorial)

A single cavity is a mold that has only one cavity, therefore can only produce one finished part per injection cycle. A single cavity is suitable for producing parts that are large, or for short part runs.

In this tutorial you will:
  • Define the size of the mold.
  • Model the sprue, runner and gate system for a simple model.

This tutorial takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Note: Throughout this tutorial it is assumed that metric units are used.
To change units:
  1. Click Application button then Options to open the Options dialog.
  2. Select the General tab.
  3. Select Metric units from the Active units drop-down menu.
  4. Click OK.
  1. Define mold size
    Define the size of the mold taking into account the requirements of the model.
  2. Create a sprue
    Add a sprue as the first step in defining the feed system for the model you have been working on in the previous tasks.
  3. Create a runner
    Add a runner to the sprue you created in the previous task.
  4. Create a gate
    Add a gate to the runner you created in the previous task.
