Specify properties of the feed system elements

Specify the sprue, runner and gate properties for the tutorial model.

  1. Click Geometry, Home tab (Home tab > Create panel > Geometry) to open the Geometry tab.
  2. Click Defaults, Geometry tab (Geometry tab > Properties panel > Defaults) and select Sprue Properties, Geometry tab Sprue Properties from the Defaults drop-down list. The Sprue properties pane appears.
  3. Select Cold for the Sprue type.
  4. Select Circular for the Sprue shape.
  5. Enter 8 mm in the Diameter (1) text box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Defaults, Geometry tab (Geometry tab > Properties panel > Defaults) and select Runner Properties, Geometry tab Runner Properties from the Defaults drop-down list. The Runner properties pane appears.
  8. Select Cold for the Runner type.
  9. Select Trapezoidal for Runner shape.
  10. Set both Width (1) and Thickness (2) to 4 mm.
  11. Enter 15.0 deg Angle.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click Defaults, Geometry tab (Geometry tab > Properties panel > Defaults) and select Gate Properties, Geometry tab Gate Properties from the Defaults drop-down list. The Gate properties pane appears.
  14. Select Cold for the Gate type.
  15. Select Circular Tapered for the Gate shape.
  16. Enter 6 mm in the Start diameter text box. This defines the diameter on the runner end of the gate.
  17. Enter 4 mm in the End diameter text box. This defines the diameter on the cavity end of the gate.
  18. Select Horizontal by length from the Orientation drop-down list.
  19. Enter 10 mm in the Horizontal length text box.
  20. Click OK or press Enter.

The properties of the feed system elements have been defined. In the next task you will create the feed system using the Runner System Wizard.
