Modeling Toolkit selection styles and options

The following modes let you select components in your scene:

Selection styles

Pick/Marquee

Lets you pick individual components or make rectangular marquee selections.

Tip: You can quickly toggle selection styles using Tab. Holding Tab after making a marquee selection temporarily activates Tab Drag select, letting you quickly add and remove components from your existing marquee selection. See Selection styles and Add and remove components from a selection with drag select.

Drag

Lets you paint a selection by dragging your mouse across a surface.

Tweak/Marquee

Lets you tweak a component or make a marquee selection. When you drag a component, Maya uses Tweak mode. When you drag your cursor in the empty space around the object, Maya uses the Marquee tool. See Tweak mode.

Tip: Holding ` activates tweak mode until the key is released. Pressing ` activates tweak mode until you press ` again.
Note: Tweak/Marquee mode is only available when a transform tool is selected.

Selection options

Camera Based Selection

When on, you can only select components that are not obstructed by other components relative to the current camera.

Highlight Backfaces
When enabled, backfacing components are highlighted for preselection and are selectable. When this option is disabled, backfacing components are still selectable, but they are not highlighted for preselection.
Preview Loop/Ring
When enabled, displays a live preview of the components that will be included in the loop/ring selection. To preview a loop/ring, select a component and move the cursor over an adjacent component along the same path while holding shift. See Loop and ring selection.
Note: Preview Loop/Ring is only available when a selection mode is active.
Symmetry
Turns on topological symmetry. See Enable topological symmetry in the Modeling Toolkit.
