Mesh Tools-Auto Repair tool

In the Selection options section of the dialog, decide whether you want to use filtering. No other set-up parameters need to be set; simply click the Apply button to run the tool.

Note: Many of the mesh tools involve selecting or manipulating nodes. Ensure that the nodes in the part are visible and selectable by activating the required layers in the Layers pane.

To achieve a higher success rate of repair after the first automatic search and repair has been complete, repeating the process a second time will further improve the mesh.

Caution: The Auto Repair command is primarily intended for use on Dual Domain meshes. For Midplane meshes, it may not always produce the desired results-if problems are encountered, you can use the Undo command to restore the original mesh. This command does not perform any checks on 3D (tetrahedral) meshes.

Dialog elements

Create as
Allows you to simultaneously create a modeling entity and assign properties to it.
For example
  • You can create a curve and assign runner properties to it.
  • You can create a region and assign part surface properties to it.

In some cases you have the option to Create as modeling entity. No properties will be assigned. This option may be appropriate if, for example, you are creating curves to construct a region. You must assign properties to the region, but you don't need to assign properties to the curves.

Tip: To change the properties of an entity, click Change.
Filter
The filter helps you select a desired model or mesh entity. When you use a filter, the pointer will snap to the specified entity.
Merge nodes along an element edge only
If this option is selected, nodes will be merged if:
  • they are connected to the same element type and they form an element edge, OR
  • they are not connected to the same element type (for example, one node is connected to triangular elements only and another to beam elements only).

This option should not be selected when using the Global Merge tool to fix free edges.

Automatic apply when selection complete
When this checkbox is activated, the selected tool is applied automatically to the chosen mesh elements whenever all inputs have been specified.
Entities to remesh
Specifies the area to be remeshed with the Target edge length entered below.

Select the entities to be remeshed.

Target edge length
Specifies how coarse or fine the mesh will be in the area to be remeshed. The smaller the edge length value that you enter, the finer the mesh will be after remeshing. Enter the required element target edge length (mm).
Transition
Specifies how coarse or fine the transitional mesh will be between two areas. When you select an area to remesh, those elements conform to the specified Target edge length. The Target edge length may be smaller or larger than those elements surrounding it, and so a transition will need to be applied to the connecting elements between the original mesh size and target mesh size.

Enter the required element target edge length (mm) and specify the transition.

Note: This feature is only available when editing a Midplane mesh.
Selections (Remesh Tetras)
Use the options in this group to control how much of the model is to be remeshed.
Options include:
Remesh all tetras in active layer
Enables all tetrahedral elements in the currently active layer to be remeshed without the need to explicitly select regions of the model. Use this option when optimizing sections of the mesh that would be time consuming to reselect, for example to iteratively test various mesh settings. If necessary, use the model entity selection tools to select individual mesh elements or regions of the mesh and assign the selected elements to a new layer.
Select a region
Enables the selection of a specific region in the current layer, which may include a single tetrahedral element to multiple elements. Use the model entity selection tools to select individual mesh elements or regions of the mesh.
Target number of elements through thickness (Remesh Tetras)
This option specifies the number of element layers through the thickness of the area to be remeshed. Specify a higher value than the default of 6 to increase the level of result precision through the thickness of the area.
Surface (Remesh Tetras)
Use the options in this group to control how the surface will be remeshed.
Options include:
Do not remesh surface
Select this option to prevent the surface mesh from being refined. Use this option when you want to refine the Target number of elements through thickness and leave the granularity of the surface mesh unchanged.
Remesh surface by edge length
Select this option to specify to what extent the surface mesh will be refined. Use this option to refine the granularity of result in across the surface of the model. Leave the

Target number of elements through thickness

set to the default value of 6 if you do not want to refine the mesh through the thickness.
Tip: Use the Measure tool to establish the edge length of existing elements.
Automatically create nodes at end points of curve
Select the check box to ensure that a node is created at each end of the curve, after the specified curve is created.
