To Create a New Feature from the Model Viewer

There are several ways to create new design features. You can use the ribbon, the command line, and the Design Explorer. In the Design Explorer, you can use the Feature Library and the Model Viewer. This topic describes how to create new features from the Model Viewer. This method enables you to explore the industry model and create new features of a particular feature class, or convert existing geometry from base maps to design features within the industry model.

  1. In the Design Explorer, click the Model Viewer tab.

To display the Design Explorer if it is not already displayed, click Home tabPalettes panelDesign Explorer.

  2. In the Model Viewer, click the feature class.

You can also click the model group if any.

  3. Click Digitize Feature.

You can also right-click the feature class and click Digitize Feature.

  4. Select a model name or Unspecified.

If you created the feature from a model group, note that available models are limited to those in the model group.

  5. Draw the feature.

If you created the feature from a model group, note that attribute values specific to the group are set.

Note: Digitize Feature is only available for feature classes with geometry. Feature classes without geometry cannot be digitized. These include the insulator, pole head, sweep, and wire feature classes. Features of these classes are generated by the application. You can view and edit attributes of these features using Quick Info and Feature Info by selecting their container features. For example, pole heads are contained by poles, wires are contained by conductors, sweeps are contained by ducts. Insulators can be viewed in 3D. For more information on containment, see About Containment.
