Working With Assets

Factory Design Suite provides a content library of system assets that you can use to create factory layouts. You can author and publish additional user assets to meet your specific needs.

There may be occasions when you have a 2D AutoCAD block representing a component in your factory layout, but the block is not a defined factory asset. In addition, the object may have been created with a different CAD system and is in a different file format. The Asset Builder environment allows you to create an AutoCAD Factory asset from the block, associate a 3D object to it, and define its orientation. Once those tasks are completed, the asset can be published as a local asset or to the Cloud. The 3D representation of the object then appears when the AutoCAD layout is synced to either Inventor Factory or Navisworks Factory.

The general user workflow for this procedure is as follows:
  1. Select a 2D block.
  2. Add asset properties such as Title, Company, and Author.
  3. Attach a 3D model to the block.
  4. Validate the 3D model.
  5. Define the model orientation.
  6. Make any additional edits to the block, if necessary.
  7. Publish the asset.
  8. Exit the Asset Builder environment.
