You can use XGen to dress forests, grassy plains, quarries, and other scenes with randomized natural elements. In this example, you populate a polygon plane with grass and tree geometry. It demonstrates how to:
- Instance default archive geometry.
- Export a Maya Paint Effects tree to an archive object.
- Use a points map to determine the placement of instanced archive objects.
- Use a Ptex map to remove archive primitives from the scene.
- Use expressions to vary the size and orientation of instanced geometry.
Important: Before starting, make sure that you set the location of your Maya project. XGen creates a number of files, such as Ptex map files, that need to be referenced from the Maya project directory.
