Defines summary, project, descriptor, process, layer, and customizable properties for an asset.

Asset Properties

Click the icon to turn on the display; the property will appear on the block in AutoCAD. Leave the icon turned off to hide the display in AutoCAD.
Add properties to classify and manage your Inventor Factory assets. Once defined, you can search for assets, create reports, and automatically update title blocks and parts lists in drawings and bill of materials in assemblies. Enter the desired information in the text fields. These fields are similar to the text fields found in iProperties.
| Title | Assigns a title for the asset. |
| Subject | Defines a subject for the asset. |
| Author | Identifies the creator of the asset. You can enter a different name.
Note: The author name is set in the
General tab of the Autodesk Inventor
Application Options dialog box.

| Manager | Identifies the manager of the project or workgroup |
| Company | Identifies the company. |
| Category | Specifies a category for the asset. |
| Keywords | Adds keywords to the asset. You can use keywords to search for related assets. |
| Comments | Adds comments to the asset. |
Classify and manage project and bill of material information associated with the asset.
| File Subtype | Displays the Autodesk Inventory file type for the selected asset. |
| Part Number | Specifies the part number. If you do not enter a part number, the file name is automatically assigned as the part number. |
| Stock Number | Specifies the asset stock number. |
| Description | Describes the asset. |
| Revision Number | Specifies the revision number of the file. |
| Project | Specifies a project name. |
| Designer | Specifies the designer for the project or asset. |
| Authority | Specifies a signature authority. |
| Cost Center | Specifies a cost center for the asset. |
| Estimated Cost | Assigns a cost to the asset. Enter a real number. |
| Create Date | Shows the date that Autodesk Inventor created the file. To change the date, click the calendar icon, and then select a new date. |
| Vendor | Indicates the name of a third-party manufacturer or supplier. |
| WEB Link | Displays a vendor link or other relevant web site address. |
Add information to display with the asset, such as type or part number.
| Descriptor | A short description that appears when you move the mouse over the asset in a layout. |
| Extended Descriptor | A longer description that appears when you hover the mouse over the asset in a layout. |
| Advanced | Click to use an iLogic rule to create a unique descriptor for a variant. |
Assign values used in Process Analysis process simulations. If you are not using Process Analysis, skip to the Layer tab in the next step.
| Process Object | Select the Process Object checkbox to designate this asset as a simulation object, and then select the object type:
Processor: Receives source materials or parts and performs operations on them Buffer: Temporarily stores items produced by a processor Source: Raw material or part entering a factory workflow The fields that appear vary based on your object type selection. |
| Buffer properties | Name: buffer name; for example, storage1
Capacity: how many items the buffer can store |
| Processor properties | Name: processor name; for example, base assembly
Description: processor description MTBF: mean time between failures for this processor and all of its operations; for example, 4400 hr indicates that, on average, this processor will run 4400 hours before failing MTTR: mean time needed to repair this processor after a failure; for example, 60 min indicates that, on average it will take 60 minutes to repair Setup Cost Rate: setup expenses divided by the amount of setup time Processing Cost Rate: processing expenses divided by processing time Uptime Percentage: percent of time the processor is operating Energy Consumption Rate: number of items processed per unit of energy Processor Operation Name: name of the overall process model of which this processor is a part; for example, engine assembly Processing Time: number of items processed in the selected unit of time Setup Time: time required to set up the processor to perform this operation |
| Source properties | Name: source name; example, metal rod
Output Rate: number of items the source supplies in the selected unit of time Infinite Feed: indicates that an unlimited supply is available; if supplies are limited, leave this blank, and enter a value in the Total Number of Parts field Total Number of Parts: number of items available from this source |
Select an existing layer or define a new layer in which to automatically place the asset. Automatic layering is useful if you want to control the visibility of this asset in complex designs.
| Specify Layer for Asset | Select to automatically associate a layer with this asset. If you do not select this checkbox, the asset will be placed in the current DWG layer in AutoCAD or Layer 0 in Inventor.
To create a layer, type a name in the text box and select a color to represent the layer. To select an existing layer, either choose one from the list of layers within this document or click External File to select a layer from another file. You can import any of the following file types: dwg, dwt, dws, and csv |
Add custom properties to an asset. Use custom properties to classify and manage your assets. You can search for assets, create reports, and automatically update title blocks and parts lists in drawings and bills of materials in assemblies. Enter the desired information in the text fields. These fields are similar to the text fields found in iProperties.
| Properties list | Displays the Name, Value, Type, and Category of each custom property currently defined for the asset. |
| Name | Specifies a name for a new custom property or selects an existing custom property for editing. Enter the name or click the arrow and select from the drop-down list. |
| Type | Sets the data type for the property. Click the arrow and select from the drop-down list. |
| Value | Specifies the value for the property for the asset. The value must conform to the selected data type. |
| Category | Enter a new category name or select an existing one. |
| Add button | Lets you add your own custom property name. |
| Delete button | Deletes the selected property from the Properties list. |
