To Create a New "Part" Component, Directly Below an Assembly (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. In the mechanical browser, right-click the component view of the component node you want to nest the new component under, and select NewComponent.
  2. Press Enter to accept the default component name or enter a new name.
  3. Press Enter to accept the default component view name or enter a different name.
    Note: The default component view names are set up in the AM:Structure tab of the Options dialog box.
  4. In model space, select the objects you want to add to the new component view and press Enter, or press Enter (without selecting anything) to create an empty component view.
    Tip:
    • To select an elemental geometry, continue clicking the object until you see the name of the geometry in the tooltip window.
    • To select a folder, continue clicking an object that belongs to the folder, until you see its name in the tooltip window.
  5. In model space, click to set the base point for the component view. A new component is created and displayed in the browser, directly under the node you right-clicked in step 1.
