To Create a New "Part" Component (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. In the mechanical browser, right-click the drawing name (root node), and select NewComponent.
  2. Press ENTER to accept the default component name or enter a new name.
  3. Press ENTER to accept the default component view name or enter a different name.
    Note:

The default component view names are set up in the AM:Structure tab of the Options dialog box.

  4. In model space, select the objects you want to add to the new component view and press ENTER, or press ENTER (without selecting anything) to create an empty component view.
    Tip:
    • To select an elemental geometry, continue clicking the object until you see the name of the geometry in the tooltip window.
    • To select a folder, continue clicking an object that belongs to the folder, until you see its name in the tooltip window.
  5. In model space, click to set the base point for the component view. A new component is created and displayed in the browser, directly under the root.
    Note:
    • If you want to restructure the new component as a part of an existing assembly, in the mechanical browser, drag the newly created component view node on to the corresponding component view of the assembly you are nesting it under
    • Standard part views, standard features, shaft component views, component views in annotation views, and component views in AMDETAIL views are invalid selections for assembly components.
    • The instructions on this page assume that the settings on the AM:Structure tab of the Options dialog box are at their default values. Please see the Configuration and Setup Guide on how to change these settings.
