To Convert Labels to a Text Layer or to MText

When you convert labels to Mtext, you place the text on an AutoCAD layer. When you convert labels to a text layer, you can store it in an existing data store or as a new SDF or SQLite data store.

To convert labels to a text layer or to MText

  1. Click Annotate tabMap AnnotationLabel to Text.
  2. In the Convert Label to Text dialog box, specify whether to convert the labels to MText or to FDO text layers.
  3. From the Source Feature Layer drop-down, select the feature class whose labels you want to convert.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • If you are creating MText, select an existing AutoCAD layer or specify a new layer name.

If you create a new layer for the text, it is named to match the feature class name.

    • If you are creating a text layer, select the target feature class or click New File.

Select an existing data store or create a new SDF or SQLite data store.

If you choose an existing data store, AutoCAD Map 3D toolset will append the text attribute to its schema.

If you create a new data store, AutoCAD Map 3D toolset connects to that file and displays the text layer in Display Manager.

  5. Specify whether to convert all the labels for the selected feature class, or only the ones that appear in the current window.
  6. Click OK.
