Scaling objects

Use the Scale option to expand or reduce objects in size.

  1. Select the objects to scale.
  2. Click Edit tab > Transform panel > Scale.
  3. Use the Scale toolbar to expand or reduce the objects in size.

The position of the scale origin controls the way the model is scaled. By default, the scale origin is placed at the origin of the current selection and objects are scaled relative to that position. It is important to position the scale origin correctly to achieve the required result.

  4. Change the scale origin by moving the marker in one of the following ways:
    • Drag the marker to a new position.
    • Click the Scale origin button and enter a position.
  5. By default, Keep Original is deselected. To keep the original objects, click .
  6. Use the drop-down list to select one of the following scale options:
    • Uniform
    • Non-uniform
    • To projected volume
    • Enclosed Volume — Scales the volume enclosed by the selected solid and face of the active workplane. Enter the required volume in centilitres.
Tip: You can also scale objects dynamically by dragging them on the screen; this method works best when used to scale wireframe.
  1. Enter the scaling factor. A preview of the scaled item is displayed.
  2. To lock the scaling factor of any axes to 1, click on the required axis lock button on the toolbar. For example, click to lock the scaling factor of the X axis. If you scale an arc and lock the scaling factor of any axis to 1, then the arc is converted to a curve. The toolbar stays open to perform further Scale operations.
  3. Select new objects to operate on using box selection, or the standard Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click operations.
  4. Click Apply to accept the changes or Cancel .
Note: The display of these buttons and the graphical preview is controlled by Show a preview of transformed items on the General Edits page of the Options dialog.
