Open a Revit Family

Open a family in the Family Editor to modify the family or to use it as the starting point for a new family.

1. On the Home page, under Families, click Open.

   As an alternative, from the ribbon, click File tab Open (Family).

2. On the left side of the Open dialog, select a family library or folder.
3. Navigate to the appropriate directory, and select the file.

   In the Preview pane, the dialog displays the Revit release that was last used to save the file.

4. Click Open.

To make other directories available from the Open dialog, see Setting Options.

Note: If you are editing a non-workshared file, other users will have read-only access to the file.
