About Searching for Commands

Search for commands in a variety of interface locations.

From the Application Menu

The Command Search field is displayed at the top of the Application menu. Search results can include menu commands, basic tooltips, and Command prompt text strings. You can enter a search term in any language. The results apply to the current workspace.

From the Command Line

A list of suggested commands is displayed as soon as you enter the first few letters of a command in either the command window or in the dynamic input box. By default, the list has the following characteristics:
  • The most commonly used commands that start with the letters you type are displayed at the top of the list. Over time, the priority order of this list changes to reflect the commands that you use most often.
  • If you consistently misspell and then choose a command, the suggestion list changes to display that command whenever you enter the misspelling.
  • The suggestion list includes commands that contain the letters you enter as well as commands that start with those letters.

Press the Tab key to access the list of system variables. Click the Search bar to browse the Web for information about the specified command.

Options for changing the display of the suggestion list are available by clicking Customize button Input Settings, to the left of the command window.
