For the Solvers and Nucleus options of the Field/Solvers menu, see Fields/Solvers menu.
Create
-
Air
- Creates field that simulates the effects of moving air. The objects you connect to the air field accelerate or decelerate so their velocities match that of the air as the animation plays.
Select > to set the Air Options.
See also Work with air fields.
-
Drag
- Creates a field that exerts a friction or braking forces on an object that’s animated with dynamic motion.
Select > to set the Drag Options.
-
Gravity
- Creates a field which simulates the Earth's gravitational force. It accelerates objects in a fixed direction.
Select > to set the Gravity Options.
-
Newton
-
Creates a field which pulls objects towards it. This lets you create effects such as orbiting planets or tethered, colliding balls. This field is based on the principle that a mutual attractive force exists between any two objects in the universe, proportional to the product of their masses. As the distance between the objects increases, the force of the pull decreases.
See also Work with newton fields.
Select > to set the Newton Options.
-
Radial
- Create a which field pushes objects away or pulls them toward itself, like a magnet.
Select > to set the Radial Options.
-
Turbulence
- Creates a field which causes irregularities in the motion of affected objects. These irregularities are also called noise or jitter. You can combine Turbulence with other fields to mimic the random motion in fluid or gaseous mediums such as water and air.
Select > to set the Turbulence Options.
-
Uniform
- Creates a field which pushes objects in a uniform direction.
Select > to set the Uniform Options.
-
Vortex
- Creates a field which pulls objects in a circular or spiraling direction. You can use this field with particles to create effects such as whirlpools or tornados.
Select > to set the Vortex Options.
Volume
-
Volume Axis
- Creates a field the lets you move objects, including nParticles, in various directions in a volume. The motion imparted on the object is relative to the axis of the volume. You can use the Volume Axis field to create effects such as particles flowing around obstacles, solar flares, mushroom clouds, explosions, tornadoes, and rocket exhaust.
Select > to set the Volume Axis Options.
See also Work with volume axis fields.
-
Volume Curve
-
Creates a field which lets move objects in various directions along the curve, as well as define a radius around that curve in which the axis field is active. You can select an existing NURBS curve (in addition to the object to which you want to apply the field) when creating a volume curve field. Otherwise, a default curve is created for the volume axis field.
See Work with volume axis curves.
Connect
- Use Selected Source
- By default, most fields are added to all CVs or vertices of the object. The field emanates from each point with equal strength. See the field’s Apply Per Vertex attribute description for more details
- Assign to Selected
- Assigns the field to the selected objects.
Legacy Rigid Bodies
These options display by default, but can be hidden by setting the MAYA_ENABLE_LEGACY_RIGID_BODIES environment variable to 0.
For information about the Legacy Rigid Bodies menu items, see Maya Classic Dynamics.
