The project base point can be used to establish a reference for measuring distances and positioning objects in relation to the model.
Initially, in stock templates, it identifies the origin (0,0,0) of the project coordinate system. Use the project base point as a reference point for measurements across the site. Place it at a convenient location in the model to simplify on-site measurements. In a view, the project base point looks like this:
When you first create a Revit model, the project base point is located at the internal origin. When starting a project, decide where in the model the project base point will be placed. If you are working with a team, determine as a team the best place for the project base point so that all team members are working from the same reference point. See Define the Project Base Point.
For example, for a large project, you may want to place the project base point at the intersection of building grid lines. For a residential project or a small commercial project that does not use grid lines, you may want to place the project base point at the corner of a building or another convenient location in the model.
After specifying the location of the project base point, you can move it later if needed. Depending on your intent, you may need to unclip it before moving it. See Move the Project Base Point.
