To Publish Civil 3D Objects to ArcGIS

You can publish the following Civil 3D objects to ArcGIS:

To publish to ArcGIS

  1. Ensure that your drawing has a coordinate system assigned to it. If a coordinate system is not specified for the drawing, you will be prompted to assign one after selecting the Publish to ArcGIS command.
Note: Some coordinate systems are not supported when publishing to ArcGIS.
    1. Click Output tab Publish panel Publish to ArcGIS Find.

The sign in dialog box is displayed.

  2. Click Connect and then sign in to ArcGIS if you are not already signed in.

The Selection page of the Publish to ArcGIS dialog box is displayed.

  3. Select the objects to publish and click OK.

The Area of Interest page is displayed.

This page shows the area on the map where the selected objects will be published. This is a read-only view that is displayed so you can verify that the published objects will be published to the correct location.

  4. Review the area and click Next.

The Layer Definition page is displayed.

  5. Specify the ArcGIS Category and the ArcGIS Layer Name for each object type.
    • The ArcGIS Category specifies whether the objects will be represented as points, lines or polygons in ArcGIS.
    • Layers are used in ArcGIS to organise content.
  6. Click each object type to display a list of attributes that you can publish for the object type. You can select the tick boxes for the attributes you want to publish and change the default attribute name.
  7. Click Next.

The Item Settings page is displayed.

  8. Specify the Service Name, Summary and Tags.
    • A unique service name is required. The service name is used to identify the dataset in ArcGIS and will be displayed in your My Content list in ArcGIS.
    • A summary is optional.
    • At least one tag is required. You can use tags to search for and filter content in ArcGIS. After you specify a tag and publish to ArcGIS, the tag is available the next time you use the Publish to ArcGIS command and you can click a tag name to add it to the current publishing task.
  9. Click Advanced Settings and specify the editing operations that are allowed.

You can specify whether the content will be editable and to what extent.

Note: See the ArcGIS Online Help for information about managing feature layers, including controlling what edits can be made to a layer.
  10. Specify groups with whom to share the content.

You can share the content with everyone, your organisation or specific groups.

  11. Click Next.

The Publishing Location page is displayed.

  12. Specify the publishing location within your My Content folder.
  13. After specifying the publishing location, click Publish to publish the content.

After you publish content, a message dialog box will be displayed with a link to the ArcGIS website.

  14. Click View in ArcGIS to go to the ArcGIS website, where you can sign in to your account and view the published content.

To update published content in ArcGIS

Each time you publish to ArcGIS you must specify a unique Service Name. To update previously published content, you can bring it into a Civil 3D drawing using the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS and then edit the objects and use the Save Back command to save the changes back to ArcGIS.

Note: You can also delete the dataset on the ArcGIS website and then republish it. However, if the dataset has already been brought into Civil 3D drawings, deleting and republishing the dataset will not restore those links.
  1. After publishing the content to ArcGIS, use the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS command to bring the dataset into a Civil 3D drawing.
  2. Edit the objects as needed.
  3. Use the Save Back command to save the dataset back to ArcGIS.
