If you bring ArcGIS data into a Civil 3D drawing and then modify the objects, you can use the Save Back option in the Data Source Manager to update ArcGIS with your changes.
- All objects in the selected dataset layer are saved back to ArcGIS, regardless of whether they were modified in Civil 3D or not.
- Civil 3D objects that have been added to an ArcGIS layer are saved back to ArcGIS. You can add new objects to an ArcGIS layer by using the Move to ArcGIS Layer command.
- Geometry and property set data is saved back to ArcGIS.
To save back changes to ArcGIS, you need to have editing privileges and the dataset needs to be editable. For more information, see About Roles and Privileges Required to Exchange Data with ArcGIS.
To save back to ArcGIS
- Click Insert tab

Find.
The Data Source Manager dialog box is displayed.
- Select the tick boxes next to the datasets that you want to save back.
- Click Save Back.
A message dialogue box is displayed so you can confirm if you want to save the content back and overwrite the existing data on ArcGIS.
- Click Continue to proceed.
- If you are not currently signed in to ArcGIS, the sign in dialog box is displayed. Sign in to ArcGIS to continue.
Support for saving back changes to ArcGIS
Some object types that are created by importing an ArcGIS dataset cannot be saved back to the original ArcGIS layer. If you want to be able to save back changes later, you can choose to create the Civil 3D object types that support Save Back when you bring an ArcGIS dataset into a drawing.
