Use settings templates to control the stylisation, AutoCAD layer and other settings for objects that are created in the drawing when ArcGIS data is imported.
You can select data in the ArcGIS layer to stylise by creating a query, and then you can apply specified settings to the queried data. Any data that is not affected by the query will be imported with the default settings.
Styles, layers and sites must exist in the drawing in order to specify them in a settings template. For gravity pipes and structures, a default ArcGIS Network pipe network selection is available, or you can create a pipe network in the drawing prior to defining the settings template which you can then select. For point groups, a default ArcGIS Layer Name point group and the _All Points point group are available by default to select, or you can define a point group in the drawing prior to defining the settings template which you can then select.
Note: Settings templates are not supported for refreshing ArcGIS data. To apply a settings template to additional data, you must reimport the data source.
To specify a settings template
- Follow the steps in To Bring ArcGIS Data into Civil 3D to select the data to import.
After you click Add to My Design Project, the Import Layers dialog box is displayed.
- In the Import Layers dialog box, click the Set Active Folder icon to open the Select Active Folder dialog box. Specify the location for the settings template files and click Open.
Note: This is the location where the settings template JSON files are stored. To share these files across an organisation, you can set the path to a network location or to a location in Autodesk Docs.
- Do one of the following to specify the import settings:
To specify settings for a settings template
- In the Settings Editor dialog box, specify a template name if you are creating a new template.

- Click Add to add a new setting row.
- Enter a name for the setting.
- Enter the Source Layer. This is the name of the layer that you selected in the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS and it is also visible in your Content location in ArcGIS.
- Click in the Query field to open the Query Builder dialog box. The query determines which data the setting will be applied to. Define a query for the data and click OK. For more information, see Query Builder dialog box.

- Click OK to return to the Import Layers dialog box.
- Click Import to import the data.
