To add a schematic line to a P&ID drawing

The following procedure is valid for both pipe lines and signal lines. You can choose to add your new line to an existing line group, add it to a new group, or link it to an existing line segment.

1. If the P&ID tool palette is not already displayed, click View tab Palettes panel Tool Palettes.
2. In the P&ID tool palette, click the Lines tab. Click a line.
3. Click in the drawing area to specify the location for the first point of the line.
4. Click in the drawing area to specify the second point of the line.
5. To specify any additional points of the line, continue clicking in the drawing area.
   Note:

   All lines drawn from the start point to end point (when you press Enter) form one segment and have one data record.

6. Press the Down arrow on the keyboard, and when prompted, select one of the following, depending on whether you want to add the line to an existing line group, or to a new line group, or if you want to link it to an existing line segment.
   • Continue Sline Group
   • New Sline Group
   • Link Sline Segment
7. When prompted, depending on your choice, do one fo the following
   • Click the group you want the new line to join. Press ENTER to end the series of line segments and join the specified group.
   • Press ENTER to end the series of line segments and place the new line segment in a new line group.
   • When prompted, click the line to which you want the new line to link. Press ENTER to end the series of line segments and link the line.
