About Working With Surface Openings

Openings on space surfaces can be important for building systems calculations when the drawing is used in AutoCAD MEP 2025 toolset or other building applications.

You can add openings to the surfaces of extruded 3D spaces and 3D freeform spaces. Depending on the geometry type of the space, the openings have different features. For example, on a 3D freeform space, you can edit the opening profile into any shape; however, on an extruded 3D space surface, the openings are limited to rectangular shapes.

Surface openings can have properties like opening name, opening type and opening dimensions attached to them.

Note: You can add openings only to non-associative spaces. The openings in an associative space are determined by the openings in the boundary objects.
