To Specify the Physical Properties of a Shaft (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

How to specify the characteristics of the shaft and the properties of the material used to manufacture the shaft.

The instructions on this page assume that you have already displayed the Shaft Calculation dialog box.

  1. In the Shaft Calculation dialog box, in the Calculated Part drop-down list, select the category of the shaft you are analyzing.
  2. If you selected Rotating Shaft in the previous step:

    In the Revolution Dir section, click the button corresponding to the direction of rotation. The button with the red dot indicates the current selection.

    Tip: If you are unable to figure out the direction corresponding to a button, move the cursor over the button. A tooltip indicates the direction of rotation.
  3. In the Materials section, click Edit. The Material Properties dialog box displays.
  4. Click Table.
  5. Click the standard that defines the material grade you plan to use. The Materials dialog box displays.
  6. Click the material to use.
    Note: If the material you want to use is not in the list, select one with the properties closest to the material you want to use.
  7. In the Material Properties dialog box, override the properties you want to change.
  8. Click OK.
