To create a datum rotated to a 2D feature

Use the Datum to Feature 2D item to create a datum by rotating an axis of an existing datum so that it is parallel to the vector of a two-dimensional feature projected onto a specified plane.

To create a datum rotated to a 2D feature:

  1. Click Alignments & Datums tab > Datums panel > To Feature 2D.

  2. Enter a Name for the item. The name is used in the inspection sequence, in the Report and Info tabs, and when referencing the item in other items.
  3. To display the datum in the CAD view, select the Visible check box.
  4. In the Datum list, select the datum you want to rotate.

    Click to select an item from the CAD view using the mouse.

  5. In the Reference axis list, select the datum axis you want to align to the projected vector.
  6. In the Reference vector list, select the vector with which you want to align the datum.
  7. In the Fixed plane list, select the plane onto which the reference vector is projected.
  8. Enter any extra information about the item in the Comment box.
  9. Click OK to add the datum to the inspection sequence.
