Expand Short Links dialog

The dialog is displayed by selecting Model Expand short links. This is used to set the options when expanding short links.

The dialog is displayed by clicking Next in the Model Builder wizard. This is used to update the network and control using data in a pre-defined schema in the SQL Server.

Item Description

Links to expand

Defines which links in the network are to be considered for expansion:

Candidate links

Add a Selection List containing links to be expanded in the Candidate links Selection Box, or click the Current button to add the links currently selected in the GeoPlan Window.

Link types

Types of link to be considered for expansion.

When the Candidate links box is updated, the Link types list is automatically updated to only include the link types present in the candidate links selection.

Uncheck a link type to remove it from the set of links to be considered for expansion.

Expand if length is below

Enter the maximum length of links to be considered as a short link for expansion.

Only those links with length less than the value entered here (calculated from link geometry) will be expanded.

Protection of surrounding links

Defines options to be applied to links connected to the short links to be expanded:

Minimum resultant length

Enter a minimum length for links connected to the short links to be expanded.

A short link will not be expanded if doing so would result in the length of a connected link (calculated from link geometry) falling below the value entered here.

Protect connection points

Check this option to prevent expansion of a short link, if expanding the link would result in the connection point of a Customer Point or Spatial Data object on a connecting link being moved.

If this option is unchecked, connection points of affected Customer Points and Spatial Data points will be moved to the appropriate end of the link.

User flag for changed fields

Select a flag from the drop-down list of user flags to be applied to fields modified as a result of the expansion process. Fields that may be modified due to expansion are:

  • length of modified links (user flag will only be applied if the Recalculated length; user flag modelling length option below is selected)
  • coordinate fields of moved nodes

Modelling length of links

Sets the option to be used when recalculating lengths of expanded links and links connected to expanded links:

Retain previous length

Length of links prior to expansion is retained.

Modified links with the default #D flag originally applied to the link Length field, will have the Length flag cleared.

Recalculate length; #D flag

Length of modified links is recalculated from link geometry.

The default #D flag is applied to the Length field of the link.

Recalculate length; user flag

Length of modified links is recalculated from link geometry.

The user flag selected from the User flag for changed fields drop-down list is applied to the Length field of the link.

Select modified objects button

Enabled after the expansion process has been carried out.

Click this button to highlight all modified objects (candidate links and their connected links, customer points and spatial data points) on the GeoPlan Window.

Select rejected links button

Enabled after the expansion process has been carried out.

Click this button to highlight links that could not be expanded on the GeoPlan Window.

(Links may be rejected due to a number of constraints, for example, if expansion would result in the length of a connecting link being reduced to below the specified Minimum resultant length.)

Expand button

The Expand button is enabled when there is at least one link in the Candidate links selection of a type selected in the Link types box.

Click the Expand button to carry out the expansion process.

Close button

Click the Close button to dismiss the Expand Short Links dialog.

Next

Opens the Allocate to Network page.

Cancel

Cancels the operation and closes the window.
