The new Point Instance modifier enables true render time instancing in 3ds Max and helps you create highly complex scenes from organized data sets.

You can now represent hundreds, thousands, or even millions of objects through a single mesh using the new Point Instance modifier. This memory efficient modifier lets you create dense environments and highly complex scenes, like forests and grasslands, from organized and easily scalable data sets.

The Point Instance modifier references objects in your scene and uses them as instances that are placed at a point on the object being modified. The easy-to-use and familiar modifier format lets you control how the distribution takes place using a variety of new parameters.

You can use any type of 3ds Max object as an instance, including 3DGS data and polygon geometry. The modifier is also designed to work hand-in-hand with the new Points object type introduced in 3ds Max 2027.2.

Note: The Point Instance modifier does not support Point Cloud objects or particle data.
