Gaussian Splat (3DGS) support

New 3D Gaussian Splat (3DGS) support in 3ds Max 2027.2 provides fast rendering, simple editing, and hyper-accurate output.

New Point Object type

Edit 3DGS data or create point data from scratch using the new point data manipulation modifiers and object type.

True Instancing

The new Point Instance modifier enables true render time instancing in 3ds Max and helps you create highly complex scenes from organized data sets.

Smart Bevel Enhancements

Smart Bevel now produces better output with improved speed and reliability.

3ds Max 2027.2 includes Arnold for 3ds Max (MAXtoA) 5.9.3.0. New features include support for rendering 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes, an improved noice denoiser, the new Shader to RGBA and tone zones nodes for non-photorealistic rendering, faster GPU scene updates, and more. Arnold also now works with native 3ds Max 3DGS data, including the new points object type. Additionally, you can use Arnold with the Point Instance modifier to take advantage of render time instancing.

What's New in USD for 3ds Max 0.16.2

USD for 3ds Max 0.16.2 adds diagnostic tools to help you manage asset paths. See all paths in your scenes—including tokens, environment variables, and file paths—and find issues before they affect your work.

Connect to Flow Studio

Autodesk Flow Studio is a cloud-based AI 3D toolset that seamlessly transforms real-world footage into fully editable, pipeline-ready CG scenes-without the need for complex setups.

Color Management	You can now use ICC profiles to specify a display. See Color Management settings. In addition, the behavior for missing config files has been improved. If the specified config file can't be located when loading a saved scene, the saved settings are preserved. These settings will be restored when you provide the correct path to the config, even if you have re-saved the scene in the meantime. The supported version of OpenColorIO is now v2.5.2.
