Manual inspection using indirect measurements example

For certain distances between features, you can choose whether to measure them directly or indirectly. Such distances include:

If your measuring instrument supports the measurement of center-to-center and surface-to-center distances, you can continue to measure the results directly.

But if your measuring instrument does not directly support such measurement, you can get Fusion to calculate the distance instead using other measurements.

Example workflow

The following example shows how to measure the distance between:

Create a manual inspection:

  1. On the Manufacture workspace toolbar, click Inspection > Manual > Create Manual Inspection create manual inspection icon.

The Create Manual Inspection dialog opens.

  2. Create a Center-to-Center center to center icon item:

    1. On the canvas, click the first hole.

    2. Hold the Shift key, then click the second hole.

An item is created in the manual inspection.

    3. In the dialog, in the Measure Method list, choose From Maximum Distance.

  3. Create a Surface-to-Center surface to center icon item:

    1. In the dialog, click add icon to create another item.

    2. On the canvas, click the hole.

    3. Hold the Shift key, then click the flat surface.

    4. In the dialog, in the Measure Method list, choose From Maximum Distance.

  4. Click OK.

Record the manual inspection:

  1. On the Manufacture workspace toolbar, click Inspection > Manual > Record Manual Inspection create manual inspection icon.

The Record Manual Inspection dialog opens and lists the things you need to measure.

  2. Measure the Center-to-Center center to center icon item:

    1. Enter the diameter diameter icon of the first hole, then click Next.

    2. Enter the diameter diameter icon of the second hole, then click Next.

    3. Enter the maximum distance maximum center to center icon between the two holes, then click Next.

Fusion calculates the Measured value for the Center-to-Center center to center icon item. The linked linked icon icon in the dialog shows that this distance is calculated from other measurements.

    4. Click Next.

  3. Measure the Surface-to-Center surface to center icon item:

    1. Enter the diameter diameter icon of the hole, then click Next.

    2. Enter the maximum distance maximum surface to center icon between the hole and the flat surface, then click Next.

Fusion calculates the Measured value for the Surface-to-Center surface to center icon item. The linked linked icon icon in the dialog shows that this distance is calculated from other measurements.
