Learn the basics

This topic describes the basic tools and features in Fusion. This is a good place to start if you're already familiar with other CAD systems.

Create a new design

  1. In the Application Bar, click the File icon file icon, then select New Design.
  2. Click the Save icon save file icon to save the design.
  3. In the Name field, specify a name.
  4. In the Location field, select the project where you want to save your design.
  5. Click Save.

Display the Data Panel

Note: Fusion is gradually being updated with the Home tab, a new way of navigating around Fusion that replaces the Data Panel. The next time you start Fusion, check to see if you have access to it yet. See Home tab.

Use the Data Panel on the left of the application to access your designs and manage projects.

  1. Click the Show Data Panel icon data panel icon to open it.
  2. Note the active project name is displayed at the top of the Data Panel and thumbnails of all the designs in the project are listed.
  3. Click the Show Data Panel icon data panel icon again to hide the Data Panel.

Use the Browser

  1. Click the Hidden icon hidden icon next to Origin folder to display the origin planes.
  2. Click the Visible icon visible icon again to turn the origin planes off.
  3. Click the expand arrow browser expand icon next to the Bodies folder to expand the folder.

Use the Timeline

The Timeline lists operations performed on your design.

  1. Click the replay icon timeline replay icon to replay the operations in the design.
  2. Right-click operations in the Timeline to make changes.

Change workspaces

Fusion capabilities are grouped into purpose-driven workspaces.

  1. In the Toolbar, click the Design workspace icon.
  2. Pick one of the other workspace icons from the list to switch to another workspace.
