Study materials

The selection of materials is very important to the overall accuracy of your simulation. It is critical, therefore, to select materials for your simulation model that represent the physical properties of the materials you intend to use in your actual design. In many designs, the choice of materials is defined as part of the design process. To test the impact of different materials, you can create multiple studies and assign different materials for each study.

By default, a material is assigned to every component in the simulation model. The material assignments used for a simulation study can be different from the materials assigned in the Design workspace. The Study Materials dialog shows you which material has been assigned to which component, and whether the material is the same as the material applied to the design model or different. For each material, click properties to find out more about it.

You can change the material assignment, and search all the material libraries for a new one, or select specialized libraries to narrow your search.

Note: The Fusion Materials Library, which is locked (read-only) and cannot be edited. Instead, create a custom library to add your own materials and material properties.
