The Web Client allows you to perform read-access tasks in a vault, such as searching the vault and viewing file history. If you have a Vault Office license, you can also perform file management tasks, such as:
If you are using Autodesk Vault Professional, you can also review items and bills of materials.
Attention: The web client is automatically installed with the server and is immediately available for use (it does not need to be enabled). You just need to make sure your browser settings are configured appropriately and then log in.
Configure Browser Settings
Before you can access the Web Client, you must make sure that your browser meets the Web Client requirements.

Web Browser Settings
Windows XP Service Pack 2
If Windows Service Pack 2 is installed, some browser settings are automatically changed that affect the web client. The procedures below explain how to check and change the settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). If you are using a different browser, check the online Help for that browser to learn more about the specific settings.
Internet Explorer 8 and 9
Allow Cookies
- In Internet Explorer, click Tools Internet Options. The General tab is displayed by default.
- In the Internet Options dialog box click the Privacy tab.
- Move the slider to select the setting that allows cookies. The Medium setting is acceptable because it restricts but does not completely block first-party cookies.
Enable ActiveX Controls
- In Internet Explorer, click Tools Internet Options.
- On the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
- On the ActiveX control settings, select Enable.
- If Autodesk Design Review has been installed but you still cannot view DWF files, ensure that Run ActiveX control and plug-ins is enabled by selecting Enable on the Run ActiveX control and plug-ins setting.
Allow any Web Site to Run Scripts and ActiveX Controls on Your Computer
- In Internet Explorer, click the Tools Internet Options.
- Click the Advanced tab and then in the Settings list, scroll to the Security section.
- Select the Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box, and then click OK.
Allow Pop-up Windows
Pop-up windows must be enabled for the web client to work correctly.
- In Internet Explorer, click Tools Internet Options.
- On the Internet Options dialog box click the Privacy tab.
- Select Disable on the Use Pop-up Blocker setting.
Mozilla Firefox 6
Allow Cookies
- In Firefox click Tools Options. The Options dialog is displayed by default.
- In the Options dialog box click the Privacy tab.
- Select Remember history.
Allow Any Web Site to Run Scripts on Your Computer
- In Firefox, click the Tools Options. The Options dialog is displayed.
- In the Options dialog, click the Contents tab.
- Select Enable JavaScript, and then click OK.
Allow Pop-up Windows
Pop-up windows must be enabled for the web client to work correctly.
- In Firefox, click Tools Options. The Options dialog is displayed.
- In the Options dialog box click the Contents tab.
- Make sure that the Block pop-up windows check box is not selected, and then click OK.
Google Chrome™ 13
Allow Cookies
- In Chrome click Customize and Control Google Chrome Options. The Google Chrome Options dialog is displayed by default.
- In the Google Chrome Options dialog box click the Under the Hood tab.
- Select Allow all cookies by default, and then click Close.
Allow Pop-up Windows
Pop-up windows must be enabled for the web client to work correctly.
- In Chrome, click Customize and control Google Chrome Options. The Google Chrome Options dialog is displayed.
- In the Google Chrome Options dialog box click the Under the Hood tab.
- Select Show suggestions for navigation errors, and then click Close.
Apple Safari 4 and 5
Allow Cookies
- In Safari click Edit Preferences. The General dialog is displayed.
- In the General dialog box click the Security tab.
- Locate the Accept Cookies section and select Only from sites I visit.
Allow any Web Site to Run Scripts on Your Computer
- In Safari, click the Edit Preferences. The General dialog is displayed.
- In the General dialog, click the Security tab.
- Select Enable JavaScript.
Allow Pop-up Windows
Pop-up windows must be enabled for the web client to work correctly.
- In Safari, click Edit Preferences. The General dialog is displayed.
- In the General dialog box click the Security tab.
- Make sure that the Block pop-up windows check box is not selected.
Logging in and Logging Out
Follow these instructions to log into and log out of the vault using the Web Client.
Log In
Make sure that your browser settings meet the requirements in the previous section before attempting to log in to the vault using the web client.
- In the Internet Explorer Address field, enter the URL for the web client application. For example, http://servername/AutodeskDM/WebClient, where servername is either the IP address or the name of the computer hosting Autodesk Data Management Server. If you do not know the name of the server, consult your system administrator.
- On the Log In page, enter the user name and password for the Autodesk Data Managment Server account assigned to you by your system administrator.
- In the Server box, enter the name of the server to which to connect.
- In the Vault box, enter the name of the database that you want to connect to, or click Browse and then select the vault from the Vaults dialog box, and then click OK.
- By default, you are restricted to read-only access to files in the vault. Clear the Read Only Access check box to check in non-CAD files using the web Office client.
Note: A Vault Office license is required for read-write access through the web client.
- Click Log In.
Log Out
Log out of the vault when you are finished with your tasks.
