AutoSpecs Frequently Asked Questions

This article contains answers to frequently asked questions about AutoSpecs and tips for troubleshooting.

How can I succeed with AutoSpecs submittal generation?

AutoSpecs is designed to generate submittals from your specifications, but there are cases where the specifications won't generate. If you encounter a failure, check to make sure that your specifications align with the requirements listed here:

  1. Specifications must be in CSI MasterFormat. AutoSpecs can process both US and Canadian specifications.

  2. CSI MasterFormat consists of the Section Number and the Section Name in the beginning of each section. For example, 03 30 00 - Cast-in-Place Concrete.

  3. CSI MasterFormat includes three parts within each specification section:

    • Part 1 - General
    • Part 2 - Products
    • Part 3 - Execution
  4. Make sure that the end of section is labeled END OF SECTION.

  5. Make sure the PDF is not a scanned document. AutoSpecs is able to process scanned documents, but best results will come from uploading the original copy of specifications.

  6. Individual PDF files uploaded to AutoSpecs can’t exceed 300 MB max and multiple PDF files cannot exceed 1 GB max.

  7. Flatten or optimize PDFs and shorten the time it takes to generate submittals.

What integrations does AutoSpecs support?

Currently, AutoSpecs is fully integrated with the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform, which means you can easily publish your submittals to the Submittals tool in Autodesk Build and Autodesk Docs. Learn more about publishing submittals.

Integrations with BIM 360 and Procore are not supported.
