Fill Out Location Import Template
To add multiple locations at once, you can use the location import template to fill out and import locations in bulk.
This topic explains how to correctly complete the location import template for Autodesk Construction Cloud™ and BIM 360™.
For an overview of adding, importing, and exporting locations, see Add, Import, and Export Locations.
Overview
The location import template allows you to bulk upload project locations. Properly formatting your data ensures a smooth import process and prevents errors.
Key Requirements
- File type: .xls or .xlsx only
- File size: Maximum 10 MB
- Sheet: Only the first sheet will be imported; additional sheets are ignored
- Rows: Each row represents a unique location and is inserted in order
- Tiers: Up to 20 user-defined tiers (columns before the Barcode column)
- Barcodes: Must be empty or unique across all locations; you may use your own values or the suggested format
Data Entry Guidelines
Full Path vs. Outline:
- Full Path: Enter the entire location path in each row (e.g., "Building A > Floor 2 > Room 201").
- Outline: Enter only the specific location for each tier in separate columns (e.g., "Building A" in Tier 1, "Floor 2" in Tier 2, "Room 201" in Tier 3).
Barcodes:
- Leave blank to auto-generate, or enter a unique value for each location.
Order:
- Locations are created in the order they appear in the spreadsheet.
Tiers:
- Add additional tiers as columns before the Barcode column if your location hierarchy exceeds four levels.
Important Notes
- Imported data will overwrite existing data in BIM 360.
- Only the first sheet in your file will be imported.
- This template is for educational purposes; do not import the example sheet.
Example
Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 | Barcode |
---|---|---|---|---|
*Building A | Floor 1 | Room 101 | 1001 | |
Building A | Floor 2 | Room 201 | 1002 | |
Building B | Floor 1 | Room 102 |
*In this example, "Building A > Floor 1 > Room 101" is a unique location with barcode 1001.
In addition, note the following considerations when filling out the template:
- Review the template instructions before entering data.
- Ensure all barcode values are unique or left blank.
- Add tiers as needed, up to 20 levels.
