Share a link to a file (Public Sharing)
Important:
When sharing a link to a file, anyone with the link can view the file unless you set a password.
Click Get Link on any file.
Click the "Share link is off" toggle to enable sharing. It will now say "Share link is on"
Click the Copy Link button to get a shortened URL that you can share with your intended recipients.
Anyone who has the link can access the file. If you want limit access, you can:
- Set a password. Anyone who has the link but not the password cannot see the contents. You must communicate that password separately to your intended recipients.
- Disallow downloading the file. Users will be able to view it online in Drive, but the Download button will not appear.
What they will see
Here is approximately what someone will see when they open your link. Actual contents may vary based on file type, file contents, and your sharing settings.
Limitations
There are a few items you can't publicly share:
- Folders. Autodesk Drive only supports public sharing for individual files. If you need to share a folder, use our Private Folder Sharing feature.
- ReCap files. ReCap projects contain internal links to multiple files. Without these links, file viewing does not work. But Public Shares are just for a single file, so someone opening a public link can't access those linked files. Therefore, Public Sharing is disabled on these file types. Use Private Folder Sharing instead.
- Recap file formats: rcp, rcc, rch, rcs, rcm
- Unsupported files. Drive doesn't support these filetypes at all. They can't even be uploaded, so there's no way to share them.
